For
hundred years, the traditional carnival of Kotor, descended from
Renaissance Venice, has been held in the month of February.
Wishing to introduce the large public with the merry carnival
atmosphere, with jesters, clowns, sailors, noblemen and fairy
tail characters , Association “Festa”
organizes this tourist - cultural activities during summer
months as well.
The
8th
International Summer Kotor’s Carnival, the most popular and
visited carnival in the region will take place from 3. - 8. august. Since 2000. Kotor has been a member of FECC (Foundation
of European Carnival Cities).
The international president of FECC, Mr. Henry F. der Kroon
regularly attends this summer festival.
Apart from the great number of fanciful masks and musical groups
from Kotor and all Montenegro towns which take part in the
carnival procession, carnival groups from Italy, Greece,
Slovenia, Croatia, Sweden, Germany and other countries will be
present on 1rd
August, too.
Concert,
exhibitions, regattas, merrymaking taking place on the ship,
the nights of musical groups and public celebrations, all this
make the unique carnival madness fulfilling the summer nights in
Kotor eagerly awaiting for the greatest night of all- the great
carnival procession. The parade of masqueraders captivating with
their imagination, originality, wittiness, together with the
symbols of carnival figures, fireworks, and parties on Kotor’s
squares make this occasion exceptional and attract about 30.000
visitors.
Town
of Kotor, situated in the Bay of Boka, one of the most beautiful
bays in the world, has been living from carnival over centuries,
while the old and the young have been impatiently awaiting for
“crazy, masked hours of Kotor” because “once the heart has to
burst into flames, for all the life, for all the days”.
